manuscripts came into the possession of Sir Joseph Jekyll (1663-1738), from
whose hands they passed into those of Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753).
Manuscript N. London. British Library, Sloane 1302. 153 ff. This is
probably the manuscript in quarto that Ashmole gave to Lilly in exchange for
M, and this gift is probably that recorded by Ashmole as having taken place on
5January 1648. 22 An unidentified scribe has copied ff. 1-88 v , ending with III
xi 117 (p. 165, 41 excitabitur); the second scribe. who is Ashmole himself, has
completed the text on ff. 89-153. Their model has been M. which Ashmole
presumably borrowed from Lilly before their temporary rift that began on
16 November 1647; so that N was probably copied in November and
December of that year. Ashmole and his companion seem to have been able to
consult a second copy of the Picatrix from time to time, and both changed the
text that they were copying from M and introduced marginal and interlinear
corrections and variants into both M and N.

Classe IV
Cette classe se compose de deux manuscrits M et N. ce dernier étant une copie de
l'ancien. L'origine de la classe se trouve probablement dans le manuscrit acquis par
Simon Forman en 1592. dont beaucoup plus sera écrit dans le volume
sur l'influence de la Picatrix; pour l'instant voir l'extrait VII. L'ancêtre de Mhad
des liens étroits avec la classe I (especiallyj), classe II (en particulier P), et de la classe VI
(surtout C), ainsi qu'avec l'ancêtre commun de classes III et V; en
d'autres termes, il est éclectique et souvent innovantes, mais pas autoritaire. Les
lectures des deux manuscrits sont présentés dans cette édition en raison de leur
importance pour l'étude de l'anglais Picatricians.

le début du XVIIe siècle. 49-53 lignes par page. 50-60 lettres par ligne. Le
manuscrit est probablement une copie de celle acquise par Richard Napier (ou de sable)
(1559 au 1634) de Great Linford. Buckinghamshire, de Simon Forman
(1552-1611) en 1599 ou peu après. Il a été hérité par son neveu, Sir
Richard Napier (1607 à 1676), en 1634, et il a, selon une note écrite par
Elias Ashmole (1617 à 1692), p. 158, il a donné à William Lilly (1602-1681):
«Ce livre a été donnée à M. Lilly par sr Richard Napier. & I échangé avec
lui pour un autre de même écrit en quarto. EA 'De Ashmole le
manuscrit a été évidemment acquis. avec N et d'autres magiques
manuscrits. par Henry Mordaunt, comte de Peterborough (1623-1697), dans
dont la bibliothèque N était quand le grand catalogue collectif des manuscrits en
Angleterre et en Irlande a été dressée au début des années 1690. 21 Le comte
